It is a wonderful thing to save old buildings. The built legacy of former times enriches our own experience. Many times preservation effort involves adaption to a new use, for instance changing an historic home for a new commercial purpose. Sometimes preservation involves adapting an old commercial structure to today's building codes and construction standards. Preservation should always be the first choice, even if it costs a little more. Alterations and adaptions should always respect and be subordinate to the original structure.
